The usage of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) by different organizations (such as the military) has been increased over the past few years, and so the need to coordinate efficiently the UAVs with the service providers. The problem is that the swarms of drones have a limited range in which they can cover ground targets while staying in communication with the base station they are related to. If a target is out of reach, there is a need to move one of the swarms closer to the target while still being in touch with one of the base stations available. In case it’s not possible, the control station can decide to open a new base station near the new target. The challenge is to find and implement an optimal algorithm that will solve this problem. The goal is to design a mechanism and implement it through OMNET++ that in distributed and dynamic fashion places mobile base stations while the drones are in continuous movement.
